The emphasis for the course will be on class discussions, for such discourses drive both our interest and desire for self-improvement. A second goal—and by no means less important—for the course will involve improving writing through the study of grammar, advanced writing strategies, and self- and peer-revisions. The literary works involved in this course will cover a range of time periods i. In order to excel in this course and perform well on the exam, students are encouraged to actually enjoy the reading and writing process, anticipate intellectual discourses that arise out of readings and writing prompts, and expand their perspectives on various topics. British Literature. The curriculum will involve reading a variety of English literature—seminal novels to world-renown poems, from poignant short stories to historical articles.
Students Entering Grade 7. Each summer, students in the Valley Stream Central High School District are encouraged to continue reading as much as they can. With that in mind, each English Department requires that students complete one book during the vacation which will result in a graded assignment for September. This summer, current sixth graders are being asked to choose a book from the selections below, complete the enclosed packet of assignments, and prepare for an in-class test in September. Upon their arrival to school in September, all 7th grade students will turn in their completed packets to their English teachers.

Since an AP course is a high school course that leads to testing with the equivalence of a freshman level college course, it will be taught with the same expectations for my students. The rest of the work rests solely upon the students to complete. Students can therefore expect to be responsible for hours of homework for that course each week. However, since our course is a two-semester class instead of one, and we meet for 5 hours a week, it is a more student supportive environment for learning while still maintaining the rigorous expectations of a college-level course. As such, students can typically expect 5 — 7. This is the parameter you should use for budgeting or scheduling your homework time.
