The Library Dragon by Carmen Agra DeedyWhen Sunrise Elementary advertised for a thick-skinned librarian with a burning love of books, Miss Lotta Scales knew she was perfect for the job. Who could guard books better than a REAL dragon?
She kept a fiery eye out to make sure no one removed any books from the shelves...
The very thought of sticky little fingers
her precious books just made her hot under the collar.
The teachers, singed and scorched, formed a delegation. But not even sweet Miss Lemon could convince Miss Lotta Scales that the library belonged to the children.
Fortunately, nearsighted Molly Brickmeyer stumbles into a copy of Snuff the Magic Dragon and reads the tale out loud. Her storytelling beckons the children back to the library and brings them face to face with the Library Dragon.
Can an open book temper the flames of the schools hot-headed librarian?
10 ways to build willpower
In the past, researchers described willpower as a muscle which could be strengthened but also depleted with overuse. Clinical psychologist Ros Taylor takes the view that willpower is a mindset which, once mastered, can be almost limitless. For years there was the received wisdom that willpower was like a muscle which became exhausted with overuse. If you squandered your willpower on, for example, controlling yourself at a meeting when you really wanted to shout at your colleagues, then you would have no willpower left in the evening to diet, exercise etc. This has now been challenged by the University of Miami and others showing quite the reverse. The more you succeed in overcoming bad habits even small ones or achieving challenging goals, the more you know you can overcome most adversities with willpower.

It appears that the same focus and energy that it takes to exhibit self-control in other words resist urges is associated with decision making. In particular, she refers to the work of Roy Baumeister who found that after making a series of decisions, people seem to exhibit less self-control and in fact resort to simpler solutions to a problem.
