La Différence invisible by Julie Dachez

See a Problem?

Julie decided to make a life change at the age of 27 when she was diagnosed for Asperger Syndrome, or autism. The diagnosis, rather than a bane, proved to be a boon that enabled her to love herself and express her personality in ways she had never before dared. An ardent student of social science and the humanities, Julie engages in two specialities, autism and feminism. She is both a blogger [1] and a YouTuber [2] , with a combined audience of over one million hits. She is presently working on a project [3] to co-direct a documentary film on the invisibility of autism based on her own screenplay. Julie views autism from a new perspective, sidestepping and transcending the usual stereotypes and sensationalism.

TOKYO -- The Japanese translation of the graphic novel "The Invisible Difference," known in its native France as "La Difference Invisible," which depicts in vibrant color the daily life of a young woman with Asperger's syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder, has left a social impact in Japan. Its writer, Julie Dachez, who has Asperger's, said, "There's a subtle difference in those who have it compared to those who don't that can't be understood just by a glimpse. Without being discriminated or shunned for their differences, I want society to deepen its understanding of people with Asperger's. The comic's protagonist, year-old Marguerite, is based on Dachez.
