Skip to My Lou by Nadine Bernard Westcott

This is another song book, which can be fun. I didnt grow up singing this song, though, so I find myself getting a little tongue tied in different spots, making it less enjoyable for me (perhaps I jut need a little more practice). Ill admit that the song is cute, though. Im not in love with the illustrative style, but it does depict whats going on in the song very well.

Ill admit to not knowing what the phrase skip to my Lou meant, so I looked it up. In case anyone else is interested, Ill enclose the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_to...

It seems to come from the Scottish word "Loo" which means love. There is a game that goes with this song. The people playing the game choose which verses they sing, or they can make up new ones. The game instructions are below the song. Lost my partner, what'll I do? Skip to my Lou, my darling. Chorus I'll get another one, prettier than you, I'll get another one, prettier than you, I'll get another one, prettier than you, Skip to my Lou, my darling.

The dark history of "Skip To My Lou". March 05, If you've been a reader for awhile, you'll know that one of my areas of interest is the weird back story to common things we don't think about anymore. Kids' songs and nursery rhymes are especially ripe for this sort of fascinating annotation. A very weird, sexually charged dance.
