In this book of the series, Charlie and Lola are practicing for a special circus show. Lola wants to be able to do a somersault without anybody’s help; however, when Charlie injures himself while playing soccer, Lola is devastated knowing that Charlie will no longer be able to participate in their circus show. Therefore, she decides to help Charlie and his sad mood by becoming his nurse and by being extremely supportive. In the end, Lola finds Charlie a part that he can still do with a broken arm so that he may still be able to join in on the circus show fun. Moreover, the dialogue between the two children is well done and helps the story move along at a great speed. Students can learn from this book by analyzing what good dialogue looks like in a children’s book so that when they are required to write a story with dialogue themselves, they can use this book as a resource.
