Sweet Confections (Indulgence Row #1) by Danyelle Ferguson

According to Rachel Marconi chocolate heals all wounds. That and throwing darts at pictures of her ex-boyfriend. Burned by yet another bad relationship, Rachel decides to reprioritize her life, putting her dream to compete on a Food Network Challenge on the top of her list and dating at the bottom crossed out in red sharpie.

But whats a girl to do when a certain sexy guy keeps asking her out?

Cue in Graydon Green, a former pro hockey player turned restaurant owner. After a lot of persistent and humorous teasing, he finally convinces Rachel to commit to a date. Just when things begin to warm up, threatening notes directed at Rachel arrive. When her bakery is vandalized, Graydons protective streak goes on red alert. Is it her obsessive ex-boyfriend stalking her? Or maybe a challenger trying to sabotage the competition?

Either way, Rachel is definitely going to need more chocolate - perhaps drizzled over ice cream and devils food cake.

Vegan Marshmallow Sampler by Sweet & Sara

She share the following feedback with us:. For this simple taste test, I only purchased the standard Vanilla variety. Biting into one plain, cold mallow, you might not expect much of a taste sensation, but these were in a whole different league than the standard. Soft, creamy, and just a tad chewy, it was like biting into a vanilla-scented cloud. While I had imagined that eating them straight would be tooth-achingly sweet, they actually proved to have a relatively balanced sugar content. Though these are confections of substance! The edges began to brown and bubble in no time, yielded a saccharine, gooey ecstacy, far better than any campfire treat that I could remember.

With unwavering family support and a new 7, square-foot marshmallow factory in Queens, NY, this vegan businesswoman is just getting started. VegNews visited with Sohn in New York to hear her story. VegNews : How did you come up with the idea to start a vegan marshmallow company? Sara Sohn : I realized I was just one of the countless number of people who really missed rice crispy treats and no one was doing anything about it. VN : Your family is very important to you and your company.

In actuality — up until very recently — this was one of the hardest foods to find in a purely plant-based form. However they are almost never vegan because of the one ingredient which is most commonly used to give them that signature fluffy texture… gelatin. Gelatin is made by taking a number of leftover body parts from cows and pigs, then boiling them down. Originally, marshmallows were made entirely from plants. Literally called marsh mallow or common marshmallow plant, Althaea officinalis is a perennial species whose root has been used for millennia to make confections. The Egyptians used it. The Romans prized it as a delicacy.
