Growing up, I was all 'peddle pushers' three quarter pants , boob tubes, cotton skivvies and a really pretty purple velvet matching tracksuit. It would appear the part of my brain reserved for 'dressing like a functional human being' never quite developed. Enter: Trinny and Susannah. You see, I didn't need subtle hints. And I will be forever indebted. Watch: Mia Freedman on learning she'd been wearing the wrong bra size her whole life. Post continues after video.
Trinny and Susannah made their names in the early noughties as fashion gurus, but a new generation of readers is discovering that not all of their advice has stood the test of time. Pages from the duo's now year-old series of What Not To Wear style guides - inspired by their TV show of the same name - have resurfaced on Twitter , and show how they advised their loyal followers on how to dress for certain occasions - complete with photo illustrations that now appear hilariously dated. When putting together the perfect job interview outfit they suggest wearing dresses over jeans, and to switch from a day to evening look in the summer, they recommend that readers 'take off knickers'. When one eagle-eyed Twitter user spotted Trinny, and Susannah's job interview style advice and declared himself 'obsessed' in a post - images from the book quickly began circulating online. Twitter user Calum Sherwood started the thread after spotting one outfit for a job interview, which he said left him 'howling' pictured. The pair advised women to wear a mid-length floral dress over a pair of blue jeans and heels, which they paired with a quirky cat bag pictured. They called the look 'modern but still smart enough for an interview'.
Admit it, you watch them, too. The success of Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine has long crossed the borders of their native UK, with the couple appearing on television screens everywhere from the United States to Belgium. Having moved on from the star-making series What Not to Wear, they now impart style wisdom to thousands of women via their newest programme Trinny and Susannah Meet Their Match seen in Flanders on the Vitaya channel. Last week, the answer became very clear when hundreds of women gathered in the Antwerp Stadsfeestzaal to watch Trinny and Susannah live on stage. Surprisingly, when the style gurus asked who in the audience was in need of help, dozens of women put up their hands and feverishly tried to reach the stage. Some seemed a little nervous, but all of them were listening intently to the advice of the British ladies, nodding and agreeing with their remarks. The two were brutally honest, as always, but, to be fair, they took pains to highlight the positive attributes of every woman who got up on stage.
