Impulsive Behavior in Romeo and Juliet By: Shaunean Burnett Impulsive behavior is something people can do everyday which can affect them for the next few days or the rest of their life. Impulsive behavior can begin with a small action, and soon result in a huge catastrophe.

Impulsive Behavior of Romeo and Juliet Essay

A simple flaw can be more fatal than death itself. Romeo is a very flawed character whose impulsive behavior led to the death of not only himself but also his beloved Juliet. At first, Romeo goes to the party to see his thought-to-be love Rosaline, but than quickly changes his love from Rosaline to Juliet at his first sight of the beautiful Capulet. Romeo knowing that Juliet is a Capulet, knowing his life is in the hands of his enemy, decides to put this aside because his love is too strong for her. If Romeo was not quick to take these actions, Romeo and Juliet would have never met.

Throughout the play, several characters are at fault, some more than others. While many characters contribute to these tragic events, Romeo is most to blame for his death and the death of his beloved Juliet. For most people, the mention of these names brings about images of young people declaring their love from balconies and defying fate to be together. Romeo and Juliet is certainly a story of youthful romance. However, the first-time reader will often miss the underlying ideas that the writer only hints at over the course of this play. To fail to realize the subtle political and social themes within the plot is to fail to understand.

That is a good place to start because the dilemma for Juliet really is the circumstance that she finds herself in. She is a tragic figure, she does take her own life; but in a different situation she could have blossomed. If you had met her at the beginning of this play you would not have been concerned about her at all. O Romeo, Romeo! Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet. This speech holds the key.
