The BBC's delightful six-part Pride and Prejudice miniseries entered the zeitgeist at roughly the exact moment Colin Firth's Mr Darcy clambered out of a lake wearing a sopping wet white shirt. Unbelievably, that moment and the show itself aired 22 years ago — which means the cast have been up to plenty since. Here's a catch-up with the stars of what many still believe to be the definitive version of Jane Austen's iconic work. One CV blip came when she was recast on Game of Thrones after shooting the pilot she played the original Catelyn Stark but Jennifer didn't let that setback get her down, even appearing opposite Jon Snow aka Kit Harington in the Spooks movie. She was most recently seen in Fifty Shades Darker , where she reprised her role as Carla Wilkes from the first film. He appeared in further romantic comedies, including Love Actually and Mamma Mia!

Pride and Prejudice is a six-episode British television drama, adapted by Andrew Davies from Jane Austen 's novel of the same name. BBC1 originally broadcast the minute episodes from 24 September to 29 October The role of Mr Darcy elevated Colin Firth to stardom. A scene showing Firth in a wet shirt was recognised as "one of the most unforgettable moments in British TV history". Episode 1: Mr Charles Bingley, a rich man from the north of England, settles down at Netherfield estate near Meryton village in Hertfordshire for the autumn. Mrs Bennet, unlike her husband, is excited at the prospect of marrying off one of her five daughters Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia to the newcomer. Bingley takes an immediate liking to Jane at a local country-dance, while his best friend Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy, rumoured to be twice as rich, refuses to dance with anyone including Elizabeth.
Finding the right actors for a production like Pride and Prejudice is a skilled job. While producers and directors always have some idea of who they'd like, they couldn't get the cast lined up without the help of a casting director. Once Elizabeth and Darcy were cast, the team moved onto finding the rest of the Bennet family. With five Bennet girls to cast, they ended up seeing just about every actress between 15 and It was quite a challenge to find people who not only had the wit and charisma to do the script justice, but also had the right period air. At the first audition the actors read a few scenes in front of the producer and director, and if they had the right presence at that point, they moved on to a screen test.
