Andrew Sean Greer Wins the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction

Honouring excellence in journalism, arts, fiction and novel writing, the Pulitzer Prize is a recognition that American authors aim for. Renowned internationally for its success and significance in the literary circle, many critically acclaimed authors including Ernest Hemingway and Harper Lee have won this prestigious award. The award, which is named after a Jewish-Hungarian immigrant and journalist Joseph Pulitzer is an annual affair. Established in , the Pulitzer Prize is awarded in twenty-one categories. The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel have given us a list of fabulous books that we must read, especially for budding writers.

Levy and Ellen Barry won in the international reporting category for their work on the struggling Russian justice system, while the paper's David Leonhardt won for commentary. The Los Angeles Times won in the public service category for its coverage of Bell, a small California city where officials' sky-high salaries sparked national outrage and then arrests. The paper's Barbara Davidson won for feature photography. Surprisingly, given big news stories last year like the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the earthquake in Haiti, the prize board did not name a winner in the breaking news reporting category, a traditional favorite. Finalists in that category included the Chicago Tribune staff, for its coverage of the deaths of two Chicago firefighters, the staff at The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald, for their coverage of the Haiti earthquake, and the staff of The Tennessean for its coverage of a devastating flood, the board said.

The Pulitzer Prizes were announced on Monday, April 18, The New York Times also won two awards. In December , three rules changes were revealed for the Awards. The first allows print and online outlets that publish at least weekly to use a number of media to report the news "including text reporting, videos, databases, multimedia or interactive presentations or any combination of those formats". The second rule change allows up to five people to be named in an award citation; the previous limit was three. The final rule change allows for digital submission of images to the judges in the two photography categories. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Pulitzer Prizes were announced on Monday, and many of the journalism awards went to venerable, well-decorated publications. The LA Times won the coveted Public Service prize for exposing the corruption of city officials in Bell, California, and the feature photography prize for photos of gang violence victims. The New York Times , meanwhile, won the prizes for international reporting, for a series about Russia, and commentary, for the work of business writer David Leonhardt. Yet among a collection of traditional, paper-and-ink publications, one winner stood out. For the second year in a row, the online investigative news organization ProPublica won an award, this time for national reporting for its coverage of Wall Street. The series, by Jesse Eisinger and Jake Bernstein, revealed how some Wall Street bankers exacerbated the financial crisis in order to thicken their own wallets. For the first time in the history of the Pulitzers, no award was given in the breaking local news category.
