Whats Under My Bed? by James StevensonAwards Won- none
Illustrations- this pictures seemed to be sketch, they were simple and painted with watercolor.
Summary- this story is about two kids who are staying with their grandfather. They get scared when going to sleep, they hear noises and see things, they are afraid that it is a monster!
My view- I thought this would be a great story to read in class, I would get scared when going to sleep when I was little and I’m sure this is something that students could relate to. In the story the kids overcome their fear by their grandfather telling them what he used to be afraid of when he went to sleep at night. Both the kids came up with reasonable explanations for all the scary things, this could be a good teachable moment.

But making a legitimately scary picture book that's still suitable for kids is not necessarily an easy task. Nor is it easy to find good recommendations. But why do we like to be scared?

There has been a lot of talk about monsters in our home lately. Not sure why it is coming up now, but I am prepared! I pulled out all my monster books and we are going to read away are fears! Click here for more information. I love how this story creates a monster piece by piece page by page and then turns right around and takes that very same, scary monster apart the exact same way.
