The Pursuit of Happyness by Chris GardnerI feel like there was more info about his childhood than necessary.. i mean, we needed background but, i feel like we got more of those details than when he was struggling as a homeless single parent, which is what i thought the book was mainly about. I also could have lived without all of the graphic sexual details he gave (made me wonder if it was exaggerated)

Before becoming a multimillionaire, Garner learned how to be a stockbroker from scratch while overcoming the challenges of fatherhood amidst having to hop over the sky-high hurdle of homelessness. Many men have left their children behind for far less than Gardner found himself facing. Even with no steady income and the option to let his son leave with his mother, Chris Gardner refused to relinquish his duties. The resolve on this guy is unbreakable. We meet him as a salesman who struggles to sell. But he gets up every morning, suit and tie, chin up, smile intact, running directly towards a paycheck of uncertainty. And I remember thinking how did he know to put the pursuit part in there?
In this critically-acclaimed drama, Will Smith stars as Chris Gardner, a down on his luck father who accepts an unpaid intern position at a prestigious stock brokerage firm in hopes of giving his son a better life. Despite having to spend nights in a homeless shelter with his 5-year-old son played by Smith's real son, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith , Chris never falters in his determination to do everything in his power to make sure his son knows how much he's loved. Smith had to be willing to be unsympathetic as Gardner, and that was a difficult bridge for him to cross as an actor. The opportunity to work with Jaden -- It's really been the series: Michael Mann opened my mind to a completely different way of working and creating, and it's grown through this process now with Gabriele Muccino. The last little spark coming from Jaden. I connected with Chris Gardner. We looked in one another's eyes.
