Little Boy Blue E1 of 4. About Episode Guide. Eleven-year-old Rhys Jones was shot dead as he crossed a pub car park to walk home after football practice. This harrowing dramatisation of the murder and its aftermath is written by Jeff Pope Mrs Biggs, and most recently The Moorside and is typically crisp, assured and detailed. Some scenes are hard to watch, as the pair buckle with grief after the pointless, seemingly random death of their beloved Rhys, a devoted Everton supporter.

The four-part drama explores the death of year-old schoolboy Rhys Jones in Croxeth, Liverpool in Rhys Jones was walking home from football practice at the Fir Tree Boys Football Club when he was shot while walking through a car park at the Fir Tree pub in Croxeth on 22, August at around 7. He was killed by a gunman on a BMX bike who fired three shots across the car park as part of a gang turf war; the first shot missed Rhys, but the second hit him in the back.

Jones was shot in the car park of a local Croxteth pub, The Fir Tree, which has since closed down. While much of Little Boy Blue is filmed using the real locations, the shooting was deemed too sensitive to film in Liverpool. Following Jones's death, the police received a slew of anonymous calls naming Mercer as the killer, and after BBC One's Crimewatch staged a reconstruction of the killing a few weeks after the crime, a dozen people phoned in all naming the same suspect. Graham's character speaks softly, and carries a a big stick — and the real Kelly was just the same.
