Lonely Planet Vienna by Lonely PlanetOUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

Two days in Vienna
Vienna, Austria is a beautiful, elegant city full of baroque architecture and sprinkled with its quintessential coffee houses. It is also one of our favorite European cities. It is nice to take the time to enjoy the coffeehouse culture, the same way you would relax and people watch at a Parisian cafe. Between the two, we preferred Vienna by far. If you are wondering how many days in Vienna you will need, I would say you will want at least two full days to explore.

It follows my exact trip.
Vienna was the first city in Europe I fell in love with. I went there for a school trip back when I was 16 and even if we spent only one day in Vienna I knew I will be returning there. And I did, there were always some good reasons to visit Vienna! At some point I even knew the city so much better than Warsaw! Before you set off to explore Vienna in one day you need to decide how you want to get around the city.
When I travel I always look for the free things to do in every city. Besides, you can always find something to do for free when you travel. Even in an expensive city like Vienna. Looking for things to do with kids in Vienna? You can spend hours touring the gardens at Schoenbrunn Palace. But visit during the spring or summer instead of the winter….
