The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman, #1) by Paullina Simons

The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitlers armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana—and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexanders impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects—a secret as devastating as the war itself—as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

The Horseman - Trailer

The awful living conditions during the war in Leningrad only become more brutal during the winter time. The hunger, the loss of family and friends And honestly, reading those scenes was pure torture at times, especially because of the whole view spoiler [Dasha situation hide spoiler ]. But, Tania os strong and determined and Alexander does everything in his power to help her through. Despite Tania being so young and vulnerable, she's one of the strongest and most admirable female characters I've ever come across.

The Bronze Horseman - Paullina Simons - Book Trailer

As a History major, I have a really odd soft spot for the Soviets and their history with us. It follows the story of Tatiana Metanova and opens on the day Russia declares war on Germany after an invasion. She meets a Russian soldier named Alexander and their story blooms from there. And this past October, Simons announced that the novel has a confirmed movie deal. And this book has a very special place in my heart and here are just a few people I hope may be included among the cast.
