The Kill Order (The Maze Runner, #0.5) by James Dashner

Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth and mankind fell to disease.

Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and they survived. But surviving the sun flares was easy compared to what came next. Now a disease of rage and lunacy races across the eastern United States, and there’s something suspicious about its origin. Worse yet, it’s mutating, and all evidence suggests that it will bring humanity to its knees.

Mark and Trina are convinced there’s a way to save those left living from descending into madness. And they’re determined to find it—if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some, you’re worth more dead than alive.

The Flare Virus (MAZE RUNNER) Explored

CLEVELAND, Ohio - When the third film in the "Maze Runner" trilogy hits theaters this weekend, it could mark the end of an era in moviemaking, as it will likely be the last movie of the so-called young adult dystopian subgenre.

'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' will mark the end of an era

Major spoilers from the Maze Runner franchise follow. It's in the name, after all. But Maze Runner: The Death Cure , the latest installment in the popular books-turned-movies franchise, turns the young hero around and sends him straight to his enemies' doorstep. Like its predecessors, the movie is relentlessly ambitious, both in story and visuals, and while it's at times exhausting, it's a burst of undeniable fun that brings Hollywood's current Y. Nowlin, even with the changes made to the ending of the original trilogy. The Death Cure picks up in the middle of a train heist.

Another year passes, another YA sci-fi saga comes to an end. Almost four years after the release of The Maze Runner , the third film in the saga, The Maze Runner: Death Cure , is hitting theaters and concluding the dystopian action franchise. But while Death Cure is the last Maze Runner movie , fans of the original trilogy and the book series it was adapted from shouldn't be too upset, as there's still hope that more Maze Runner stories could be told onscreen, in one form or another. The movie, like the book it's based on, gives each character a satisfying ending, light spoilers ahead , though Death Cure 's last scene does hint that Thomas' story might not be as over as we thought. His savior complex is still just as alive as ever, and it's clear that, should the studio and creative minds behind the project deem the Maze Runner franchise worthy of more films, there's plenty of story left to be told.

Maze Runner is an American film trilogy consisting of science-fiction dystopian action adventure films based on The Maze Runner novels by the American author James Dashner. Wes Ball directed all three films. The film features Thomas, who wakes up trapped in a maze with a group of other boys. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze can Thomas hope to uncover his purpose and a way to escape. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with obstacles.

The film premiered on January 26 and topped the box office for its opening frame, finally unseating Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle after that film spent three straight weekends in the number one slot.
