Robin (Bridge Four)’s 'ya' books on Goodreads (309 books)

Straddling 3 to 3.5 stars

The statue of a girl sits alone in a beautiful southern cemetery as the world goes by. It seems almost lifelike like maybe just maybe it could hold the essence of the person it was fashioned after, maybe it does.

What if a statue could hold the essence or soul of the person it was modeled after? What if it sat in a cemetery through a century and let the world around it go by until the soul of someone else calls to her own soul? That is the premise of Stone Faced Angel.

Brandon has loved the beautiful cemetery with all the stone statues for as long as he can remember. He is drawn to one statue in particular that he has always found to be eerily beautiful and life like feeling some connection to it. When he is in a near fatal accident, the image of the Angel from the cemetery flashes in his mind almost like she was there to protect him.

Maura wakes up on the altar where a beautiful statue used to lay. She has no memory of anything in her life except for her name. Everything seems wrong, the lighting, the vehicles the clothing. But is that because she remembers nothing of her life and parents or is there some other reason?

When Maura and Brandon meet there is something that feels so right about the situation. Maura slowly gets glimpses of her memories but they don’t line up to anything in this time. As the past and present are revealed it is learned what happened to Maura to end her life so early.

I don’t really want to give anything else away as that would ruin the surprise. I very much enjoyed Maura and Brandon together as they get to know one another and I liked the twist at the end no matter what other feelings it brought up for me. I got really emotional at the end.

As this is the first novel in a series at times I would have liked the pacing to go just a little faster. I’m not sure if that was done deliberately since the setting is in the south and I always associate that with a slower pace in life in general or if it is just a function of getting to know our characters and needing some setup time. The other thing I would have liked was possibly a little longer epilogue but….as this is a continuing series I can see why the ending and epilogue played out as it did.

I really like the idea of the story and really want to see how that plays into the next book in the series. This is a very sweet romantic story of love and what some would sacrifice for a chance to have it.

Thank you to Marie McKean and Netgalley for the ARC

It is sold as a powder which is added to water and mixed, creating effervescence, before being swallowed. The powder contains sugar; two antacids, sodium bicarbonate and citric acid; and a laxative, magnesium sulphate. The ability to breathe freely through the nose during sleep, rather than the mouth, is essential to optimizing our sleep, as well as our long term health.
