Wish Upon A Star by Trisha AshleyThe perfect gift isn’t always under the tree…
Single mum Cally’s life is all about her little girl Stella. She’s resigned to the fact that the only romance she’s going to get is from the rom-coms she watches, and with her busy job and her daughter, she doesn’t have time to even think about love.
But life gets very tough when Stella gets sick. Balancing her job as a recipe writer and looking after Stella is all consuming, so when Cally meets handsome baker Jago the last thing she wants to do is fall in love, especially when she’s been badly burned by a Prince Charming from her past. Can laid-back, charming Jago unlock Cally’s frozen heart and help her find true love and magic under the mistletoe?
Wish Upon a Star by Trisha Ashley
Still, the last thing Cally wants to do is fall in love. All she wants is a Christmas miracle to save Stella. This is the story of Cally and her daughter Stella, a young girl in desperate need of life saving surgery. Cally has brought up Stella all alone, after being left whilst pregnant and has therefore dealt with all of her medical issues with only the support of her mother and close friends. This novel follows Cally as she seeks to raise the money for the life saving surgery in America by selling her London home and moving in with her mother.
In Wish Upon a Star Cally is a single mum with a life that revolves around her little girl, Stella, who was born with serious health problems. Cally only realises quite how tough shouldering everything alone has been when all the villagers - and especially laid-back and charming baker Jago - rally round to help. All Cally wants for Christmas is a miracle to save Stella and the story is very much about following your star wherever it may lead and however tough the going might be, with hope in your heart. I think because it is contemporary, so I can write about topics that interest me and which appear to strike a chord with readers. But I think if the humour is in you, it just appears in the writing like invisible ink held over a flame.
But will they raise enough? And raise the money in time for her operation? I also loved a lot of the other characters in this book, they really brought the magic and heart-warming moments alive. I think this book is emotional and heart-breaking, as well as giving the reader that glow of Christmas spirit and hope. This book was written so beautifully.
