Proposals for same-sex couples to enjoy the same pensions and tax advantages as married couples by registering their relationship will not be greeted with universal enthusiasm. The proposed changes would allow gay couples to be legally recognised, and offer them a range of rights and responsibilities. According to Jacqui Smith, the deputy minister for women and equality, the aim is to "support stable families and show that we really value the diversity of the society we live in". It would open the way to respect, recognition and justice for those who have been denied them for too long, she says. Couples may end up with joint state pension benefits, the ability to seek parental responsibility for each other's children and an obligation to maintain each other financially. They may be able to claim a survivor's pension and be eligible for bereavement benefits, compensation for fatal accidents or criminal injuries, plus recognition under inheritance and intestacy rules and tenancy succession rights.

Animal Farm is a satirical novella which can also be understood as a modern fable or allegory by George Orwell , ostensibly about a group of animals who oust the humans from the farm on which they live. They run the farm themselves, only to have it degenerate into a brutal tyranny of its own. When it was all over, the remaining animals, except for the pigs and dogs, crept away in a body. They were shaken and miserable. They did not know which was more shocking--the treachery of the animals who had leagued themselves with Snowball, or the cruel retribution they had just witnessed. In the old days there had often been scenes of bloodshed equally terrible, but it seemed to all of them that it was far worse now that it was happening among themselves. Since Jones had left the farm, until today, no animal had killed another animal.

Animal Farm is an allegorical novella by George Orwell , first published in England on 17 August Ultimately, however, the rebellion is betrayed and the farm ends up in a state as bad as it was before, under the dictatorship of a pig named Napoleon. According to Orwell, the fable reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. In a letter to Yvonne Davet, Orwell described Animal Farm as a satirical tale against Stalin " un conte satirique contre Staline " , [7] and in his essay " Why I Write " , wrote that Animal Farm was the first book in which he tried, with full consciousness of what he was doing, "to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole". Orwell wrote the book between November and February , when the UK was in its wartime alliance with the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany and the British people and intelligentsia held Stalin in high esteem, a phenomenon Orwell hated. It became a great commercial success when it did appear partly because international relations were transformed as the wartime alliance gave way to the Cold War. Time magazine chose the book as one of the best English-language novels to ; [11] it also featured at number 31 on the Modern Library List of Best 20th-Century Novels.

This phrase has been used by George Orwell in his phenomenal novel Animal Farm. This phrase points out the type of corruption going on at the fictitious Animal Farm. The Old Major expresses his ideals that put forward not only individual dignity and comradeship, but also universal voting system and decision making. Hence, no particular group or individual could oppress another. However, it extends to animals of the whole world, without making any distinction. This phrase has wider application, wherever we see hierarchy.
