Spider-Man: New Ways To Die by Dan SlottA really fun Spidey story with some great-looking art by Romita Jr. The story has a classic feel to it, with Peter still working as a photographer, fighting against Venom, Norman Osborn and his team of Thunderbolts, but it also has some interesting plot twists and intriguing new characters to mix it up a bit. This is the kind of storytelling I like to see in a Spider-Man book, and it looks like Dan Slotts earlier work on the character has some of that unique energy. It made me nostalgic for the animated series I used to watch as a kid, and for Sam Raimis movies, too — in fact, I feel like with some adjustments, this story could have made a great foundation for a better Spider-Man 3 (although it came out a few years after the movie — oh well). Now I am really curious to check out some of the other Spidey books from that time period.

Nathan Kiehn is the author of over blog posts on his family website Keenlinks and "The Gray Guard" ebook fantasy trilogy on Amazon. No joke, but this is probably the best Brand New Day arc up until the masterpiece that is The Gauntlet which I will get to down the road. Which is really, really weird for me to say because this is yet another Dan Slott tale. Needless to say, that means it all goes down from here. Sorry, Dan. However, it most certainly helps that he has the talents of John Romita Jr. Romita Jr.
The Amazing Spider-Man. Amazing Spider-Man Review. New Ways to Die concludes Amazing Spider-Man has been the most polarizing book on the stands by far ever since the whole "One More Day" controversy, and it's a sad reality that it doesn't look like this will change anytime soon. Not while Marvel and the Spidey braintrust insist on filling their Spider-Man stories with cryptic references to the many changes in his status quo, so much so that many of these stories seem to be about those very changes as much as they're about any of Spider-Man's new adventures.
