Whilst in New York, she catered for an exclusive Democratic Party fundraiser, which involved personally cooking for President Clinton. Allegra gave up her hands—role at LEON in early to focus on writing and broadcasting but remains in touch with the business as well as being a founding shareholder. Previously she co—presented Economy Gastronomy, a six—part BBC2 prime—time series about planning ahead, shopping well, spending less and using ingredients wisely. She also has been working with Chartwells, the educational arm of Compass, at Oxford Brookes University for five years, as part of a team committed to bringing student eating up to date. These days she focuses her journalistic efforts more around the ethical work she supports, such as the February article for Delicious magazine about her recent trip to Palestine in support of the Fairtrade olive growers.
Around the World in Recipes is Allegra's most personal book to date. An authentic glimpse into food and cultures, it is filled with her favourite dishes eaten over 20 years of travelling, tasting and scribbling. Allegra McEvedy is a chef, writer, broadcaster and culinary explorer. She has been cooking professionally for 20 years, doing her apprenticeship in some of London's best restaurants, before packing up her knives and moving to the US. After working in New York and San Francisco, she came back and opened The Good Cook in a London community centre, with her ethos of 'the best food to the most people'.
