Jesus Always: Embracing Joy in His Presence by Sarah YoungI was given this devotional for Christmas; but after almost two months, I just cant get into it. It seems to say almost the same thing day after day. It also bothers me that it is written in the first person from Jesus as though Young is quoting things Jesus has said to her. I know it has lots of rave reviews and that I am definitely in the minority, but I have just felt uncomfortable reading these devotions. And I have always believed that if something to do with Jesus/God makes me uncomfortable, then I am being nudged by God away from it.
42. Jesus Is Always With Us
All our troubles and hardships may sway us from the idea that Jesus is always with us, no matter what we're doing or what we're currently going through. If anything, our hardships should bring us closer to Him. We sway from Him because for most of us, Jesus is just a concept. We should know that this is not so. Jesus is with us always. Jesus is guiding us always. Jesus is always cheering us on.
Come rest with Me, beloved. Though many tasks are calling to you, urging you to put them first, I know what you need most: to be still in My Presence. Take some deep breaths, and fix your gaze on Me. This enables you to relax and enjoy My nearness. I am never far from you! Meditate on Scripture; search for Me in the Bible.
Just a couple of days ago I dropped my wife off at the airport to fly overseas to deliver supplies and serve at an orphanage in Uganda. In reality, this trip is out of both of our comfort zones and as we ate breakfast the morning before her flight we began discussing some of her worries about the trip. She was concerned about the long flights and the great distance that she would be from home. Thankfully, in the middle of our concerns, Jesus placed Matthew on my heart. As I thought about that verse it gave me unbelievable peace. Regardless of location, circumstance, or situation… He is with us always. Am I still concerned?
